Where History Meets the Future

A perfect marriage of monuments and sights dating back to different eras is actually what makes Kiev so unique in style. But one cannot overlook the hallmark of the city’s world fame and renown: monuments of early Russian architecture, such as: Saint Sophia – the symbol of “holy wisdom” in Eastern Orthodox Christianity, Kiev Pechersk Larva – deemed the city’s spiritual identity, far-flung on the steep banks of the Dnepr. Just a short distance away are masterpieces of later eras, yet no less captivating: Saint Nicholas Cathedral, monuments to the city’s legendary founders, the memorial to Bogdan Khmelnitsky – a hero and epitome of the freedom-loving nation, the Monument to Motherland, personifying the heroic deeds and sacrifices of the Ukrainian people, and, not least, the Olympic stadium, the country’s main sports arena – a symbol of strength and the will to win.
